The night of liberation

Heimdal

Indisponible
In the night of 5-6 June 1944, some 15 000 American parachutists jumped into Normandy to take the German troops defending the coastal zonechosen for the Landings from behind. Among them were the men of the 3rd Battalion, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, commanded by Lieutenant- Colonel Robert Wolverton. Dropped behind Utah Beach, their mission was to take the two bridges over the Douve, near Carentan, to prevent German reinforcements reaching the coast. Thanks to long and meticulous research, helped by encounters and exchanges with veterans and historians, Gilles Vallée has been able to reconstitute Wolverton’s route and his men aboard C-47 Stoy Hora, piloted by Colonel Frank Krebs of the 404th Transport Carrier Group. In this book illustrated with more than 200 photos and drawings by Christophe Esquerré, Gilles Vallée brings to life the night of 5-6 June 1944 following the actions of a handful of paratroopers. To complement the book, as though you were at the cinema, a DVD made by Charles-Henri Groult gathering together filmsand sound recordings will let you take off with these men. In brief an indispensable book for you to relive the night of the Normandy Landings.
